Ron McGovney Confirms That He Was Approached For A New Metallica Show And He Declined

Short-term Metallica bassist, Ron McGovney, recently posted a tweet on his Twitter account and revealed that he was invited to take part in an upcoming TV show, which will be about Metallica’s successful career and the infamous tensions between band members.

As you may already know, McGovney was Metallica’s bassist from October 1981 until December 1982. He’s one of James Hetfield’s childhood friends and in fact, the two of them had started their music careers together by forming Leather Charm. James Hetfield recruited his childhood friend shortly after he co-founded Metallica with Lars Ulrich in 1981.

However, McGovney’s career with the band was short-lived due to the increasing tensions. The band members would rehearse in McGovney’s parents’ house and record their tracks in his garage. Sooner or later, the fact that Metallica depended so much on McGovney led to a series of fights and McGovney decided to quit the band.

Even though he left the band early on, he’s been a great source of information for Metallica fans as he often likes sharing photos from the good old times and tell stories. In his latest tweet, McGovney revealed that he was recently contacted by REELZ to appear on ‘Breaking the band… Metallica’ but he declined as he ‘wasn’t interested.’

Here’s what Ron McGovney said in his recent tweet:

“Yeah… They contacted me about appearing on something they were working on. ‘Breaking the band… Metallica.’ I told them that I wasn’t interested.”
