Roger Waters Sets The Record Straight After Antisemitism Accusations

Roger Waters recently shared a statement against the antisemitism accusations directed at him, making it clear that he’ll fight against the recent cancelations of his shows in Germany through a post on Instagram.

The Pink Floyd icon has been in the crosshairs lately since it seems that his habit of vocalizing all his political thoughts often lands him in controversies. Still, it might be fair to say that Roger’s not disturbed by all the criticism he gets, as the rocker usually stands by his words, defending his stance.

So, when the municipalities of Frankfurt and Münich canceled his appearances at local festivals due to alleged ‘antisemitism,’ Waters decided to clear the air about the accusations and called out the city council for violating freedom of speech. The singer noted that his lawyers were working on reversing the municipality’s decision as he wished to take the stage on his canceled shows.

He then pointed out how he wasn’t an antisemite and had never been, and his criticism against Israel wasn’t towards its people but for the government. Roger discussed he condemned antisemitism along with all forms of racism. So, it seemed that he wouldn’t let go of his show cancelations due to his political comments and ‘false‘ accusations.

The bassist’s words on the cancelations of his appearance and accusations of him being an antisemite:

“Hey, Frankfurters, leave free speech alone. My lawyers are taking steps to ensure that my concerts in Munich and Frankfurt in May 2023 take place as contracted. Human rights and freedom of speech for all peoples under German law must prevail, which is why I’m taking this stance to ensure the will of the few will not prevent me from performing in Frankfurt and Munich.

I am taking the unprecedented step of appealing to the law to protect me from the unconstitutional actions of two authorities which seem to rely upon the fundamentally false accusation that has been made against me, namely that I am antisemitic.

I want to state for the record and once and for all that I am not and never have been antisemitic, and nothing that anyone can say or publish will alter that. My well-publicized views relate entirely to the policies and actions of the Israeli government and not with the people of Israel. Antisemitism is odious and racist, and I condemn it, along with all forms of racism, unreservedly.

I am not going to and do not need to keep making my position clear on this issue. I am confident that truth and the law will prevail and that these authorities will not succeed in denying any of my basic human rights.”

Waters seems to be on a mission to clear the air against the accusations of antisemitism directed at him, calling out everyone who made the ‘false’ word spread. He also discussed how his legal team was on the job to reverse the German cities’ decisions to cancel his appearances at local festivals, so the singer seems determined not to let go of his canceled shows.
