Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, recently shared a now-deleted post on Twitter to express support for Roger Waters, who has come under fire after wearing a costume similar to an SS uniform in his Berlin concert.
The Democratic candidate for president called Waters a ‘global hero’ in his tweet, writing:
“Roger, you are the global hero Orwell had in mind when he said, ‘In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.’ The high priests of the totalitarian orthodoxies are trying to silence you with censorship, gaslighting, and defamation. Please keep speaking truth to power!”
Waters’ outfit in the Berlin gig included a red armband with two black crossed hammers on a white circle. Following that, the musician received backlash on social media. Also, Berlin police opened an investigation, reviewing the footage of his earlier performances in Germany to determine whether he altered his outfit.
To defend himself against the accusations, Waters shared the tweet:
“My recent performance in Berlin has attracted bad faith attacks from those who want to smear me because they disagree with my political views and moral principles. The elements of my performance that have been questioned are quite clearly a statement in opposition of fascism, injustice, and bigotry in all its forms.
Attempts to portray those elements as something else are disingenuous and politically motivated. The depiction of an unhinged fascist has been a feature of my shows since Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ in 1980. I have spent my entire life speaking out against authoritarianism and oppression wherever I see it.”
Roger Waters’ controversial show in Berlin came after he won the legal battle against the Frankfurt city council over accusations of antisemitism when the administrative court decided that the singer did not aim to glorify the Nazi ideology.

This is the fawning tweet to racist and antisemite Roger Waters that @RobertKennedyJr has now deleted. But he also deleted his quasi non-apology as well. Don’t worry Robert, screenshots are forever and we will remember which side you took! pic.twitter.com/0WOq0bOp9b
