Rumors are rife in the music community that AC/DC might be introducing a new bassist for their much-anticipated 2024 tour. A forum user named BLUEBOLT on an AC/DC fan site sparked the talks by suggesting Chris Chaney could be replacing Cliff Williams.
Chaney’s career includes stints with Jane’s Addiction and extensive touring and recording with Alanis Morissette. Adding to the intrigue, Matt Laug, AC/DC’s recent drummer for their Power Trip Festival show, has also played with Morissette, suggesting a possible connection.
The forum user, who claimed to get his information from reliable sources, commented on the possible pick by writing:
“It’s a very weird pick, and I believe the history between Matt and this guy is probably why he got picked. Angus may of asked who he preferred to play with. (Don’t know if that was the case, just guessing). The rhythm section will have a flavour of Alanis. This is subject to change (more than likely not), and I apologise if I’m wrong. Chris Chaney will be the bass player on tour. Formerly of Jane’s Addiction, Alanis, and a tonne of other bands!”

Williams’ Absence From The Upcoming Tour

Dean Delray, a comedian and avid AC/DC fan, shared on social media last month that Cliff Williams might not be touring with AC/DC later this year.
Williams had previously announced his retirement at the end of the ‘Rock Or Bust’ tour in 2015-2016, which also saw Brian Johnson stepping down due to hearing issues. Still, Williams and Johnson contributed to AC/DC’s 2020 album ‘Power Up’ and performed at the band’s first concert in over seven years last October.
On January 27, Delray shared:
“OK, last night I heard from a very reliable source that AC/DC will be touring with a new Bass Player this year. I’m not gonna say who it is; I’ll let AC/DC make that announcement, but I will say this: 3 years ago, I had Cliff Williams on my podcast, and he straight up said he would not be touring again, and I was surprised that the fans didn’t seem to pick up on that.”
The Countdown For The Trek Started

Meanwhile, AC/DC has been teasing fans about the 2024 tour, which hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. A countdown clock appeared on their official website, set to end on Monday, February 12, at 3 a.m. ET.
The site also displays the message ‘Are You Ready,’ with a link for fans to sign up for updates. This follows a teaser video the band posted, featuring their iconic lightning bolt and the phrase ‘Are You Ready,’ along with a snippet from their 1990 song of the same name.
In the lead-up to the announcement, AC/DC has been actively posting video messages on social media, seemingly counting down the days. The number posted on Friday, February 9, was ‘3.’
