Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale recently discussed her role as the only female performer invited to Black Sabbath’s final show. She shared her thoughts on representing women in heavy metal during an interview with Chaoszine.

Hale expressed her appreciation for the invitation. She acknowledged the absence of other female metal artists from the historic event.

“We’re very appreciative that we’ve been asked and I’m very honored to say that I’ve been the only female asked to be there,” Hale said.

The singer went on to describe how she connected with other prominent women in rock and metal about the opportunity.

“And so I was talking to a lot of my sisters in this business like Amy Lee, Taylor Momsen, Maria Brink, Ash Costello, and everyone,” she continued. “They’re all so proud of me. And I said, ‘Oh no, my sisters, I’m bringing you all with me. I’m carrying you on my shoulders.’ I am going to represent all of the women who love heavy metal.”

Hale also reflected on the unique perspective women bring to heavy metal music.

“Because there is something to be said about a woman in hard rock and heavy metal,” she explained. “We have a lot to rage about. So there’s a difference between the reasonings why men get into heavy metal and why women do. It’s like we’re out for blood.”

Hale’s participation in this historic event carries additional significance. The magnitude and finality of the occasion make her role even more important.

Blabbermouth reported that the event at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5 will mark not only Black Sabbath’s final performance but also Ozzy Osbourne’s last solo appearance. This dual farewell makes the concert one of the most significant metal events in recent history.

The lineup for the farewell show demonstrates the event’s massive scale and importance in the metal community. XChange Tickets revealed that the concert titled “Back To The Beginning” will feature heavyweight acts including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, and Gojira. This makes Hale’s role as the sole female performer even more remarkable.

Hale’s involvement extends beyond a single performance slot. Louder Sound confirmed that Halestorm will perform a full set and Hale will also participate in an all-star supergroup during the show. This further highlights her contribution to this farewell celebration.

The significance of being the only woman invited to such a monumental event in heavy metal history underscores both the ongoing gender disparity in the genre and Hale’s exceptional standing within the metal community. Her commitment to representing her female peers demonstrates the solidarity that exists among women in heavy metal despite their underrepresentation at major industry events.

The interview was conducted as part of discussions about Halestorm’s new album “Everest” and Hale’s vocal evolution.
