Quiet Riot has officially announced its new lead singer, John Torra, who steps in to replace Jizzy Pearl. Stryper frontman Michael Sweet also weighed in publicly on the band’s decision.
The announcement, issued as a press release, introduces the 23-year-old Long Island vocalist and explains how he was chosen from a large pool of hopefuls.
“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: QUIET RIOT Announce John Torra as New Lead Singer. Los Angeles, CA — September 21, 2026,” the statement said. “QUIET RIOT are proud to announce their new lead singer, John Torra! The 23-year-old Long Island vocalist stood out among more than 700 submissions following the band’s open call for singers. John sent his audition videos to management and also shared performances online, where they went viral and sparked an incredible response from fans.”
The band’s manager, Regina Banali, Frankie Banali’s widow, elaborated on why Torra ultimately landed the role.
“We saw your comments, tags, and messages urging us to bring him on board,” Banali said. “But what earned John the gig was his undeniable talent. His videos were outstanding—but when he stepped into the room with us, he blew the doors off our songs. We all heard it: an authentic sound that brings our material to life the way it’s meant to be heard.”
Banali continued by describing Torra’s character and what the band expects from him going forward.
“He may be young, but he’s dedicated and professional,” Banali said. “He brings a breath of fresh air that lifts us all, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future with him on lead vocals. Please join us in welcoming John Torra to QUIET RIOT!”
Following the announcement, Stryper’s Michael Sweet shared his own reaction, noting that he had anticipated the pick.
“I knew John Torra would be the guy,” Sweet said. “I had no inside information whatsoever when I called that one. How could they not go with a young guy, who’s passionate and talented and who sings the songs like they were meant to be sung. Just like the original, yet with a youthful spin.”
Sweet closed his comment with some words of advice for the new singer.
“Congrats John. You deserve it,” Sweet said. “Stay humble, stay grateful and always stay respectful. If you do that, you’ll achieve more than you’ll imagine.”
Torra’s hiring caps off a search that stretched across the summer and drew significant attention within the rock community.
Quiet Riot’s search for a new frontman began in mid-July. The band put out a public call for submissions from singers across North America, specifically framing the search as a move “for 2027 and beyond.” That open casting call ultimately drew the more than 700 submissions referenced in the band’s announcement. The process became a drawn-out and closely watched audition period for fans of the group.
Before joining Quiet Riot, Torra fronted the New Jersey hair metal outfit Fire ‘N Ice. He built the kind of live performance chops and stage presence that stood out to the band during his in-person tryout.
The transition away from Jizzy Pearl was not immediate. Pearl’s run with the band came to a close following Quiet Riot’s September 18 show. In the weeks leading up to that point, Dangerous Toys frontman Jason McMaster stepped in to fill the vocal slot for two late-summer dates while the band finalized its decision on a permanent replacement.
The search is now complete, and Torra is locked in as the new voice of Quiet Riot. The band appears poised to shift its focus toward live performances and future material with its youngest frontman in years.
