Paul Stanley recently addressed criticism about his son’s musical career. He responded to a fan’s accusations in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The KISS frontman’s response came after a fan criticized his son Evan Stanley and Gene Simmons’ son Nick Simmons’s new band, Stanley Simmons. The fan claimed they hadn’t earned their success.
A KISS fan had written to Paul Stanley with harsh criticism about the band formed by the sons of the two KISS members.
“F*ck your kids band! They haven’t paid their dues… Who do you think you are?” the fan wrote.
Stanley fired back with a direct response defending his son’s achievements.
“You clearly don’t want to accept that your own lack of talent is the reason you continue to fail at everything,” Stanley said. “If your father was famous you would still get nowhere because you are too busy looking enviously at others instead of looking at yourself and realizing the obvious.”
The controversy highlights the ongoing challenges faced by children of famous musicians, particularly when they pursue careers in the same industry as their parents.
Stanley Simmons was formed in 2019 when Evan Stanley, who handles vocals and guitar, teamed up with Nick Simmons on bass. BLABBERMOUTH.NET reported that the longtime friends decided to collaborate after years of playing music together. The band plays hard rock with influences from KISS’s glam and classic rock sound. They released their debut single “Don’t Look Back” in 2020.
Evan Stanley’s musical journey began early. He grew up immersed in music due to his father’s KISS career. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that he began playing guitar as a teenager and studied at Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Before Stanley Simmons, he performed with his father’s side project Soul Station, a Motown covers band, from 2010 to 2012. He also released indie rock tracks under his own name, including the 2018 single “Fly Away.”
Nick Simmons took a different path to music. He initially focused on acting and comics before shifting his attention to bass guitar. Revolver Magazine documented that he learned bass from his father Gene Simmons and played in local LA bands before joining Stanley Simmons. He has also pursued solo work, releasing the single “Shadows” in 2022, which blends rock and electronic elements.
The nepotism debate surrounding Stanley Simmons reflects broader discussions in the music industry about children of famous musicians. The Guardian observed that the “nepo-baby” backlash in music has grown in the post-TikTok era, with critics questioning whether family connections provide unfair advantages. However, supporters argue that talent ultimately determines success, regardless of family background.
