Michael Jackson’s daughter, model, actress, and singer Paris Jackson recently sat down with Scott Lipps of Lipps Service to chat about her life and music. Paris shared her obsession with Radiohead and Thom Yorke while especially talking about what the band has provided for her in terms of her expectations and desires from music.

The self-described songwriter’s heart lies in more of the grunge and folk side of the music industry, so much so that she wanted her debut album to be a mashup of Manchester Orchestra and Radiohead. The singer has always been open about sharing her muse as Radiohead and pretty much everything they release.

The model shared with Scott Lipps that she became acquainted with Radiohead and their music the right way, easing into it with their classical sound rather than starting with more experimental albums. She is so mesmerized by the band’s music that everything they release leaves a feeling that Paris can’t describe but meets everything she expects from music.

Paris Jackson’s words on how she describes herself as a musician:

“More so than anything, if I had to put a label on it, the closest thing to it would just be a songwriter, like less of a performer and less of a singer and more of just like a songwriter.”

Her statements on how she discovered Radiohead:

“Oh God, I fell madly in love with them a couple of years ago, but I had been exposed to them like I knew the songs that had played on the radio because, like going to school and stuff, I always listened to the more alternative and rock stations in L.A. I don’t know if I’d ever be able to describe why it’s just that it does something to my brain, heart, and soul that’s just like everything I want from music.”

Jackson also reflected on her favorite Radiohead records:

“I mean, well, I also have some friends that I’ve gotten them into Radiohead, and I think that there’s a way to go about it when introducing someone to kind of like taper them into it. Taper’s usually off, but like going into it sort of like with Modest Mouse, you don’t want to start someone off with ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels.’ You got to ease them into it with like ‘Float On’ and ‘The World At Large’ and more digestible things.

So thankfully, I was introduced the correct way with ‘The Bends’ and ‘OK Computer,’ and those are like my top two. Then those helped me just fall so in love with it and get into that level of understanding to where like, by the time I did get to ‘Kid A’ and the weirder ones, then it, yeah, I was like, ‘Okay, cool, like I can dig this.’”

The singer’s introduction to Radiohead started with two classic albums, ‘The Bends’ and ‘OK Computer,’ Once she went further down the rabbit hole, she realized she was into even more of the band’s stuff. That’s when she realized that Thom Yorke and Radiohead gave her everything she wanted from music, and she has been a massive fan ever since.
