In a recent conversation with Keefy of Ghost Cult, Helmet’s Page Hamilton blasted Donald Trump’s harmful politics for tearing American families apart.

The singer initially talked about their new song ‘Gun Fluf.’ He said it’s about America’s strong gun lobby blocking changes to gun laws. Hamilton reflected on gun deaths and emphasized the devastating damage these guns can do. The rocker then noted, addressing Trump:

“I have friends that are conservative. I have friends that voted for Trump, people I care for, and we’re on the same f*cking side. Don’t do what he does and pit families… He has separated families. I mean, he is the most toxic pile of sh*t that we’ve ever had in American politics.”

Dissecting Public Admiration For Trump

Expressing disbelief and irritation over some people’s admiration for Trump, he added:

“And this fascination with his celebrity or whatever… When I watched the Anderson Cooper interview with that Playboy bunny that he had an affair with, and she was, like, ‘He’s so brilliant.’ And I’m, like, he’s not f*cking brilliant. He’s a moron. He’s a f*cking moron.”

Addressing The Political Climate

The singer shared his opinions on the former President before, too. In an October interview with 518Scene.com, Page said recent world events, like the pandemic and political turmoil, inspired songs on their new album ‘Left.’ He highlighted the changed political climate in the U.S. and the rise of far-right groups. He referred to Trump and added:

“For me, the biggest part of it was the political climate and how much it’s changed in our country. I can’t speak for other countries — I know Hungary has a fascist guy too, and there are neo-Nazis popping up, and they’ve always been around — but they were a little more underground before Orange Douche Face made it okay to be a racist douchebag.”

In the song ‘Make-Up’ from their album ‘Left,’ Hamilton criticizes Trump, saying ‘Bloated, feckless/ Orange and d*ck-less.’ Speaking to the Messenger in September, the musician noted that Trump encouraged xenophobia in America, especially with his negative comments about Mexican immigrants. Hamilton compared Trump’s tactic of blaming a specific group for problems to Hitler’s strategy, noting how effective and scary it is.
