Olivia Rodrigo Shares Her Favorite Rock Band

In a recent cover story for Rolling Stone, Olivia Rodrigo opened up about her favorite rock band while discussing her latest album, ‘Guts,’ which has just arrived on September 8.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the chorus of ‘All-American Bitch,’ the singer said:

“I have been listening to so much Rage Against the Machine this year. That’s my favorite band right now. I would just play it over and over again on my way to and from the studio. I want to go to the Rock Hall of Fame so bad because they’re getting inducted.”

Punk and hard rock weren’t the only things that influenced ‘All-American Bitch.’ Rodrigo discovered the song’s title in Joan Didion’s book of essays, ‘Slouching Towards Bethlehem,’ as she further explained:

“I think everyone can relate to being put in a box in some sense. Something I always grappled with, especially when I was younger, is feeling like I couldn’t be angry or express dissatisfaction or complain for fear of being ungrateful. It was drilled into me, and it caused a lot of problems.”

During the same interview, Olivia also revealed that she wouldn’t be able to attend Rage Against the Machine’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction due to a scheduling conflict that cannot be changed, although she really wanted to do so.

The singer also shared that ’90s political rap-rockers and Babes In Toyland were other inspirations for the track, ‘All-American Bitch.’ Rodrigo recalled having a turntable by her bed, and her mother would play Babes In Toyland’s ‘Fontanelle’ album while she got dressed.
