While he is in the promotion process of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds‘ upcoming album, ‘Council Skies,’ the former Oasis vocalist answered a variety of questions regarding the industry. Gallagher’s statements were critical of pop musicians and how they dominate the mainstream.

He explained his opinion as follows:

“Music has become quite fractured, and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the pop stars of today are f***ing idiots.”

Gallagher mentioned Sam Smith as an example when asked to specify whom he was talking about and misgendered the pop singer in his expression by using ‘he/him’ pronouns. Still, the musician’s criticism was directed at Smith’s music rather than his gender identity. According to Noel Gallagher, Sam Smith is one of the ‘uncool pop stars.’

In his answer, the former Oasis member stated:

“Sam Smith. Look at him.”

Noel Gallagher indicated that he is critical of today’s mainstream and the singers who dominate it because of the undeserving music and performance presented by them. He believes that Sam Smith and most other pop stars in the charts represent what is ‘wrong’ with contemporary music.
