Noel Gallagher Breaks Silence On The Huge Payout To Ex-Wife
Recent speaking to Matt Morgan’s Patreon podcast, Noel Gallagher discussed his divorce from Sara MacDonald for the first time, making a sharp remark about their divorce settlement since their split announcement in January 2023.
During the interview, Gallagher talked about his ex-wife, who has stayed in their shared north London mansion with their sons, Donovan and Sonny. He quipped about passing by the house on a bike ride, saying:
“I can get on the bike and go up to King’s Cross and go down to the canal at Longfield Road. And get on the canal outside my wonderful ex-wife’s house and give her a little wave, and go, ‘You didn’t take this from me!’ But the pace of London is f*cking great at the minute, I’m loving it.”
The Divorce Settlement
In November 2023, news emerged that Gallagher and MacDonald had finalized their divorce, with MacDonald expected to receive a significant payout. Reports suggest she received around £20 million and their £8 million Hampshire mansion.
Insiders revealed that the couple deliberately kept the proceedings private, communicating mostly through lawyers towards the end. Following the settlement, both Gallagher and MacDonald took trips abroad to celebrate, with Gallagher heading to Vegas and MacDonald to Ibiza.
Gallagher On Lockdown And Its Impact
Since separating from MacDonald, Noel has been staying at Claridge’s in Mayfair, London, and is awaiting the renovation of his new flat in Maida Vale. The couple, who were married for 12 years, cited growing tired of each other during the Covid-19 lockdown as a factor in their split. The singer said the following in a chat with Hot Press magazine:
“It’s not uncommon for people to get to their fifties and go, well, you know… The silver lining to a very dark cloud being that I actually had some f*cking time off during Covid. Although I f*cking hated lockdown, I got to finish off all these songs that I’d half-written and write a load of new ones. Felt fairly sh*tty both times, but thankfully no complications.”
In his latest album with High Flying Birds, Gallagher reflects on his divorce, stating that the long, drawn-out process influenced the album’s mood. He shared that he writes about his personal experiences, as he doesn’t feel strongly about most news events.
