Nikki Sixx recently disclosed how his favorite Mötley Crüe song held a dark truth to it and how they wrote the track while inspired by childhood trauma.
Sixx often exchanges tweets with his audience and answers their questions, so when a fan asked which Mötley song was his favorite and why, the bassist didn’t hold back from diving deep into the single’s origins as he got candid about what was going through his mind during the creative process.
The rocker picked ‘Primal Scream‘ as his favorite Mötley Crüe song and recalled how the song came into play in the first place, explaining he got inspired after reading a book while attending therapy sessions trying to heal from childhood trauma.
Tommy Lee had come up with the drum groove, and the rest was history as he and his bandmates worked on the track and implemented the final touches. Still, it surely felt a much more personal song to Sixx than it felt to his bandmates as the bassist tried to cope with his childhood trauma through the song and reflected his feelings into it.
Nikki’s words on why ‘Primal Scream’ is his favorite track:
“‘Primal Scream’ was inspired lyrically by a book I was reading as I was going through therapy about my mom and dad. ‘Broke dick dog, head slung low, tail knocked in the dirt. Time and time of being told trash is all I’m worth.’ Tommy came in with groove to the song. Bob Rock produced.”
