Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx recently defended his bandmate Vince Neil after facing criticism about the vocalist’s performance and appearance. He responded to fan questions in a statement shared on X.

The exchange occurred during a Q&A session where Sixx invited fans to ask personal questions about his life. Australian actor David Campbell posed a provocative question about Neil’s stage presence and physical condition.

“Go for throat. Ask the most personal or disbelief about my life. Let’s do one tonight. Let’s go,” Sixx said to fans.

Campbell asked if he was embarrassed performing with Vince and suggested Neil should “eat a salad and maybe hit the gym.” Sixx responded defensively.

“You don’t need to be an asshole David. Were not all perfect life you,” Sixx replied.

The criticism comes amid ongoing concerns about Neil’s vocal abilities and stage presence. These concerns have intensified following his recent return to performing.

Metal Insider reported that Neil made his live comeback on August 1, 2025, at Boston’s MGM Music Hall. This marked his first performance in nearly 10 months. The extended absence followed a mystery health scare that forced Mötley Crüe to postpone their Las Vegas residency to September.

The return to the stage did little to quiet critics. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that fans expressed concerns online about his vocal performance. Isolated vocal tracks from the Boston show were labeled “cringe” by listeners. His live renditions of classic hits “Shout at the Devil” and “Girls, Girls, Girls” were described as “painful.”

The Express revealed that Mötley Crüe fans were left deeply worried for the frontman after witnessing his vocal performance in shows shared online. The concerns have persisted as the band continues to tour and maintain their active performance schedule.

The ongoing scrutiny of Neil’s performances has created tension within the fanbase. Some defend the veteran rocker while others express disappointment with his current vocal abilities. Sixx’s defensive response to Campbell’s comments reflects the band’s solidarity despite the mounting criticism surrounding their longtime frontman’s stage presence and vocal delivery.
