Nikki Sixx recently engaged in a subtle yet pointed response to Eddie Vedder’s previous remarks about Mötley Crüe through a series of Instagram stories.

The conflict traces back to a statement by Vedder in a 2022 interview with The New York Times. The rocker expressed his disdain for glam metal bands, especially Mötley Crüe, which he encountered while working in San Diego. He specifically targeted the band’s hit ‘Girls, Girls, Girls,’ criticizing the image it projected of both men and women, labeling it ‘vacuous.’

In response to Vedder’s comments being reshared in an article, Sixx took to Instagram. His first story featured the article’s headline emphasizing Vedder’s use of ‘vacuous’ to describe Mötley Crüe. In a subsequent story, Sixx shared the dictionary definition of ‘vacuous,’ saying:

“Vacuous. Adjective: Having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless.”

Here is what Vedder had said, criticizing Mötley Crüe:

“You know, I used to work in San Diego loading gear at a club. I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to — bands that monopolized late-’80s MTV. The metal bands that — I’m trying to be nice —I despised. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and Mötley Crüe: [expletive] you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous. Guns N’ Roses came out and, thank God, at least had some teeth.”

The Social Media Battle Between Bands

Following the Pearl Jam frontman’s comments, the bassist had previously taken to X to hit back, labeling Pearl Jam as ‘one of the most boring bands in history,’ writing:

“Made me laugh today reading how much the singer in Pearl Jam hated Mötley Crüe. Now, considering that they’re one of the most boring bands in history, it’s kind of a compliment, isn’t it?”

This sparked a back-and-forth between the two bands. Pearl Jam later responded with a tweet showing their live performance, accompanied by a caption that read:

“We [love] our bored fans.”

In the wake of this exchange, neither Pearl Jam nor Vedder has yet responded to Nikki’s latest ‘silent’ protest on Instagram.
