In a recent post on X, Neal Schon responded to backlash against Billie Eilish’s vinyl statement.
During a new interview with Billboard, Eilish expressed frustration about big artists making lots of vinyl versions to get fans to buy more. She added:
“It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money — and it’s all your favorite artists doing that sh*t.”
Schon Says It Depends

After Mitch Lafon shared this news on X, Schon left a comment, writing:
“Yes, but it does depend on everything in your catalog was remastered from different album, so they all sound better.”
Eilish Reveals What She Really Meant

Following Eilish’s comments, some people believed she was targeting Taylor Swift. The singer posted on Instagram to explain her statements, writing:
“Okay, so it would be awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that Billboard article. I wasn’t singling anyone out; these are industry-wide system issues [and] when it comes to variants, so many artists release them—including ME!, which I clearly state in the article. The climate crisis is now, and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better, sheesh.”
In her Billboard interview, Eilish also said that she released vinyl before, but now she makes them eco-friendly. Her ‘Happier Than Ever’ album uses 100% recycled black vinyl. Colored variants use recycled scraps, and each record is wrapped in sugarcane shrink-wrap.
Eilish Makes Efforts For Sustainability

Eilish has been a supporter of sustainability for a while. In March 2020, her mother started Support + Feed, a nonprofit that gives plant-based food to those who need it to tackle the climate crisis. Eilish helps by promoting it during her tours.
She’s also involved with REVERB. This is a group aiming to green up the music industry. Last summer at Lollapalooza, her set worked with solar energy thanks to their collaboration.
