In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Morgan Lander explained how Kittie helped women of metal get recognized in the industry.
The singer was asked if Kittie contributed to changing the landscape by being trailblazers to some degree. “There are still hurdles to overcome, but there is a lot more representation in metal and extreme music,” she responded. “I wouldn’t claim it myself, but I have heard some people say that Kittie walked so others could run. We did endure a lot in the music industry as young women.”
Kittie faced many challenges throughout their career, including lineup changes, record label issues, and losing an original member. After bassist Trish Doan passed away in 2017, the band took a break, though it wasn’t officially announced.
Kittie made a comeback in February of this year. Back in November, the news broke that Kittie was working on a new studio album with Raskulinecz at Sienna Studios in Nashville. “I just think that the world is ready for us now. A lot of the things that we were doing 25 years ago were still… I don’t want to say controversial, but they seemed so new,” the singer said in another interview. “It definitely has a lot to do with a shift in thinking and acceptance and representation in the years since the very first time that Kittie came out. Sometimes it just takes the world a bit of time to catch up and appreciate those things.”
Kittie released a new song, ‘Eyes Wide Open,’ in February and their first LP in 13 years, ‘Fire,’ on June 21. They will also be going on a short tour as the supporting act for Jinjer’s February tour. The tour begins on February 6, while Kittie joins them on the 21st.
