Rush drummer Neil Peart is a renowned musician whose drumming received countless praise from fans, fellow musicians, and music critics. Hence, his passing due to brain cancer on January 7, 2020, left thousands of people in sorrow. One of those people was Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and he’s planning to perform a Neil Peart tribute show. The rocker recently announced the musicians joining him for this event.
“We’re only ten days away from my 1st live appearance of 2023,” said Portnoy to remind his followers about the Neil Peart tribute. “Myself and many very talented friends will be paying tribute to our hero: Mr. Neil Peart! January 7 at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA. Some tickets are still available, so get them while you can.”
The drummer also said the show will include many Rush classics, and it will be a charity event. He wrote, “It’s going to be an evening of Rush music, and all proceeds will be going to Cedars-Sinai in Neil’s name.” Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a nonprofit teaching hospital established as the Kaspare Cohn Hospital in 1902. Since it’s a massive health center, all the profits from Peart’s tribute show will provide care for numerous people.
In addition to this, Portnoy shared a photo featuring the line-up. Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, Jon Dinklage, guitarist John Wesley, Overkill drummer Jason Bittner, Happy the Man drummer Joe Bergamini, Opiate for the Masses drummer Seven Antonopoulos, and the band YYNOT will join the Neil Peart tribute performance.
Mike Portnoy has had many moments with Neil Peart, and the two musicians have something in common. Portnoy is the second youngest person after Peart to be inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. The drummer had also named the Rush icon as one of his influences in previous conversations. Thus, it is not surprising that he felt the need to pay his respects to the late icon while supporting a good cause.
