During a new appearance on The Power Hour, Mick Mars opened up about his experience working with drummer Ray Luzier from Korn on his latest solo record, ‘The Other Side Of Mars.’

When asked about collaborating with Luzier and others on his solo project, the guitarist expressed his satisfaction with Luzier’s drumming style, emphasizing that he found the diversity he sought after departing from his previous band’s confines. He shared:

“It was exactly what I was looking for. The newer style of drums, like the way they play, and I mean Ray, is incredible. I didn’t ever think that he would want to play on my kind of record, but I think that when he came home and heard some of the songs, he was surprised at where I wanted to go with my music, and he really jumped at the chance, and I was really happy that he did. He’s a really cool guy. He plays like… You ever get tired of four on-the-floor drummers? I do.”

Although Mars didn’t directly reference his former bandmate, Tommy Lee, his remarks suggest that he found the right musical match after branching out from Mötley Crüe. This implicit message shows Mick’s desire to break free from the constraints of his past and explore new musical avenues.

Diversity In Music

Reflecting on the current state of music during an interview with FOX17, Mars lamented the lack of diversity in contemporary music. He explained:

“Diversity is, not always, but is missing nowadays. I purposely wrote this way, in this manner, to take you on a little short journey. Every song you hear, you’re imagining or seeing a different landscape or whatever; it’s a musicscape, I guess. But I wanted to put that across to show that I’m not just this [one-dimensional player and songwriter].”

After someone mentioned how he felt more liberated since leaving a famous band he was in for years, the rocker added:

“I feel more like I’m free to do whatever. […] There’s a billion different things that you can do, and you stay in this little box. I can’t do that.”

Continuing The Journey After Chart-Topping Success

Despite just releasing his debut solo album, Mars is already setting his sights on his next musical venture. He revealed plans for a second album, hinting at a departure from the sound of ‘The Other Side Of Mars.’

Following the release of ‘The Other Side Of Mars,’ the guitarist has experienced a surge in popularity. The album debuted at number one on the iTunes Charts, surpassing expectations. Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, Mars thanked his fans for their overwhelming support and acknowledged the significance of achieving such chart-topping success.
