Stryper’s Michael Sweet recently shared his thoughts on Skid Row’s search for a new lead vocalist. He suggested the band should reunite with original singer Sebastian Bach instead. Sweet made these comments in a Facebook post shared on The Michael Sweet.
Sweet’s statement came in response to Skid Row’s recent announcement of partnering with Sweetwater to launch a worldwide search for their next lead vocalist.
“It would be great to see this band finish out their final years with the original singer. Sebastian Bach,” Sweet said. “You do what you have to do and no one knows the reasons why but I can say this – I recently hung out with Sebastian and bowled with him out in LA. He was an absolute gentleman. Engaging and respectful. We even went to the rainbow bar and Grill and hung out there as well after we bowled.”
Sweet continued to praise Bach’s abilities and expressed his hope for a potential reunion.
“We all know that Sebastian is the voice of Skid Row. He’s a powerful personality and a one-of-a-kind singer,” he continued. “It would be great to see them iron out their differences and give the fans what they want. I would certainly be there cheering them on. Whatever happens, I wish all the guys much success and happiness as they navigate through this. They are a great band and I respect them dearly.”
Sweet’s public endorsement of a Bach reunion comes amid ongoing tensions between the former bandmates. It also comes amid conflicting statements about the possibility of reconciliation.
Bach himself has expressed frustration with the situation. He questioned why other classic rock bands can reunite while Skid Row remains divided. The Metal Voice reported that Bach recently asked in a January interview, “If Triumph is going back on tour and Rush is going back on tour, what is our problem? Like what the heck’s wrong with us? Like it’s just silly.”
However, the remaining Skid Row members have consistently rejected the idea of a reunion with their former frontman. Parade noted that guitarist Dave Sabo stated in October 2024 that he, Scotti Hill, and Rachel Bolan agree they don’t want to revisit that path. They insist a reunion “is not gonna happen.”
The band’s decision to move forward with new leadership has led to their current partnership with Sweetwater for the worldwide singer search. MetalSucks confirmed that the audition process remains open with no submission deadline. The band continues reviewing applications until they find the right vocalist.
Despite the band’s firm stance against a Bach reunion, Sweet’s comments reflect the sentiment of many fans who continue to hope for a reconciliation between the classic lineup members. The ongoing public discussion highlights the enduring appeal of the original Skid Row formation. It also highlights the complex dynamics that have kept the band apart for decades.
