Stryper frontman Michael Sweet has announced the return of his hard rock supergroup Iconic with a new album scheduled for release later this year, as reported on The Michael Sweet Facebook page.

Sweet shared details about the supergroup’s sophomore album and its lineup in his announcement.

“I am excited to announce the return of the hard rock supergroup Iconic, featuring Michael Sweet (guitars), Joel Hoekstra (guitars), Marco Mendoza (bass), Tommy Aldridge (drums), and Nathan James (vocals), for our sophomore album ‘II,’ scheduled for July 31, 2026,” Sweet said.

The band has also released new material to mark the announcement.

“To celebrate the announcement, the band wanted to share the new single and accompanying lyric video, ‘Cry No More,’ available now,” he continued.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for the supergroup. The group brings together some of rock’s most accomplished musicians for their second collaborative effort.

Frontiers Music noted that the album “II” represents a significant evolution from their debut. The band “sharpens that vision into a clearer, heavier, and more confident sonic identity, delivering a sound that is more powerful, more direct, and unmistakably rock.” The record showcases the band’s growth and refined musical direction since their formation.

Blabbermouth reported that the centerpiece of the album lies in the electrifying guitar partnership between Joel Hoekstra and Michael Sweet. This collaboration delivers “soaring melodies, blazing solos, and muscular riffs that perfectly balance technical brilliance with pure hard-rock attitude.” The partnership between the Stryper frontman and the Whitesnake guitarist forms the backbone of Iconic’s distinctive sound.

The rhythm section features Marco Mendoza on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums. They provide the foundation for the band’s powerful sonic approach. My Global Mind stated that Aldridge and Mendoza “drive the record with thunderous authority, creating a groove that is both massive and relentless.” Both musicians bring extensive experience from their work with legendary acts including Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, and Ozzy Osbourne.

The album will be released through Frontiers Music Srl on July 31, 2026. The lead single “Cry No More” is already available alongside its lyric video. The Music Universe confirmed that this marks the band’s highly anticipated return to the music scene. The release builds upon the foundation established with their debut album.
