Avenged Sevenfold has announced the postponement of their Latin American tour due to vocalist M. Shadows’ vocal injury, as reported by The Official A7X.

The band’s frontman revealed he has developed a hematoma on his left vocal fold, the same injury he sustained in 2017.

“Hey everyone, I got some discouraging news. We’re gonna have to postpone the Latin American tour. I got my voice in some sort of trouble,” M. Shadows said. “After Louder than Life festival, I got a little sick and I thought that my throat was feeling crummy for being sick. It felt like it was probably the travel, the schedule, etc.”

He explained that after consulting with a doctor in Argentina, the severity of the condition became clear.

“I have a hematoma on my left vocal fold, which is the same injury I had in 2017,” he continued. “In 2017 though I decided to keep singing, took a bunch of pills and ended up resulting in surgery. So basically, if I shut this down now, I’ll have a couple weeks of voice rest and then a couple months of rehab and we’ll be able to remake these dates to you.”

M. Shadows emphasized his commitment to making the responsible choice to avoid further damage.

“So, I got to make the responsible decision here and shut this down. This will be the last time I’m talking for a couple of weeks,” he said. “It breaks my heart that I have to do this. But we’re gonna be able to reschedule these dates for January. Apologies to everyone who’s made plans and spent money.”

The band’s official statement confirmed the tour will be rescheduled for early next year. Existing tickets will remain valid for the new dates.

This latest vocal injury marks another challenging period for the band. The band has faced similar health setbacks in recent years. The decision to prioritize long-term vocal health over immediate tour commitments reflects lessons learned from previous experiences.

Louder Sound reported that M. Shadows previously underwent a successful recovery process after two months of strict vocal rest. This allowed him to rebuild his voice without requiring surgery. The recovery was aided by acid reflux medication and proper hydration techniques to accelerate the healing process.

During his previous recovery period, M. Shadows expressed gratitude that no permanent damage occurred to his vocal cords. “I could probably start singing very soon but I’m going to take this recovery slow just to make sure everything is as strong as it can be,” he stated. This demonstrates the cautious approach that has now become the band’s standard protocol for vocal health issues.

Despite the tour postponement, Avenged Sevenfold has maintained their connection with fans through new releases. Loudwire noted that the band released the Black Reign EP on September 21. The EP features the single Mad Hatter along with other tracks originally recorded for the Call of Duty video game series.

M. Shadows has described Mad Hatter as his favorite among their Call of Duty contributions. He noted it as the most challenging piece they’ve created for the gaming franchise. The release demonstrates the band’s commitment to delivering new content to fans even during periods when touring becomes impossible due to health concerns.
