Michael Monroe shared details about his emotional encounter with Vince Neil in a recent interview with Lipps Service.
“They [Mötley Crüe] came off stage and then Nikki [Sixx] came to hug me, and then I met Vince [Neil],” Monroe recalled. “[I] looked in his eyes and I said, ‘Well, Razzle always wanted us to meet.’ Because he always thought we were… us singers are alike. Vince smiled and we looked at each other for a little while, maybe 20 seconds.”
“I just saw the sadness and what he’s been going through. I could see it in his eyes,” Monroe continued. “Vince is the guy who suffered the most with the accident. I realized that then.”
“I wanted to make peace. I don’t want any bad blood with anybody,” Monroe added. “I’m not that kind of person. I would never upset people. I always want to be nice and kind to everybody.”
The emotional meeting became a significant turning point for both musicians. Their lives had been forever connected by a tragic event decades ago.
Metal Edge Magazine documented the historic meeting at Finland’s Rockfest in June 2023. This encounter came nearly four decades after the tragic accident that had kept them apart.
The fatal incident took place in 1984. Louder Sound reported that Neil, driving under the influence, was involved in a car crash that claimed the life of Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas ‘Razzle’ Dingley. The tragedy forced Hanoi Rocks to disband in 1985. It also created a decades-long rift between the bands.
Blabbermouth noted that Monroe took another step toward reconciliation. He wrote a personal letter to Neil a week after their meeting. In it, he emphasized that “there’s no reason to really have any animosity.”
Loudwire later reported Monroe’s reflection on the encounter. He described it as ‘one of the most important moments’ of his life. This demonstrated his commitment to transforming their shared tragic history into a constructive relationship.
