Anthrax fans won’t have to wait any longer for a new album — Frank Bello has just confirmed it’s coming out very soon.
Bello spoke to American Musical Supply about the band’s plans and what they currently have in their hands. “We have a new Anthrax record [coming out]. And it’s been about eight years. It’s been a while. So, we have a new Anthrax record. This bass will be shown everywhere we go.”
“We’re gonna start touring. The record’s supposed to come out September, October. So big touring plans,” he continued. “If you know Anthrax, you know what we do — we stay on the road for quite a while. There’s some very big shows being planned right now, which I can’t talk about, but I’m very psyched. So 2025 is the year. And I’m glad that we have this [new Spector bass] ready in the chambers, because this bass is gonna go a long way, and I just can’t wait — I can’t wait, ’cause I know what I have on stage. I’m very psyched about it.”
In October last year, guitarist Scott Ian revealed that the band couldn’t release the upcoming album earlier due to COVID. “I mean, we have demos. Charlie Benante, has demos that he sent pre-COVID. But then once lockdown and all that stuff happened, we just all walked away; nothing creative was happening at all with us through that whole period. And then, slowly but surely, when we started playing shows again in ’21 and going into ’22, that’s when we started working again, really.”
The guitarist continued, “And then in the last year, we really started to put stuff together and Charlie and Frankie Bello, and I getting together and having writing sessions and arranging stuff, to the point where we finally went in the studio just recently and recorded nine songs that have drums, bass, and guitar done now.”
“And Jonathan Donais’s got a couple of lead breaks that are killer that he’s demoed and sent to us. He hasn’t actually officially recorded them yet, but I think he’s gonna get most of his stuff written and then he’ll go in and record all of it. And I’m pretty sure we’ve got dates on the books for Joey Belladonna, vocals to start working as well with producer Jay Ruston next month. So, yeah, everything’s officially moving along at a decent pace now,” Ian added.
Last November, Frank Bello returned to Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge, California, to record bass tracks for the band’s follow-up to their 2016 album ‘For All Kings.’
