Metallica Can Make This Iconic Meme Come True, Lars Ulrich Explains

In a recent interview with Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich discussed his experiences with the band and their journey through the years. The conversation touched upon their long-standing career and the drummer’s feelings about being on stage with his band.

Having faced numerous challenges throughout their career, including health issues for lead singer James Hetfield, Metallica has managed to sustain their position in the music industry. The band’s recent release, ‘72 Seasons,’ came after a seven-year wait, fueling the interest of both old and new fans alike, demonstrating their ability to captivate audiences despite any setbacks.

Regarding this matter, during the interview, Ulrich expressed that being on stage with the band, feeling strong and ‘in that moment,’ was an incomparable experience. Connecting with his fellow band members and the audience was what made it all worthwhile for him.

He stated his point by saying:

“When I’m up on stage, and I feel strong, and I’m in that moment, and the four of us are connecting, and we’re connecting with an audience, whatever the size is, all of it’s worth it.”

The musician also shared his amazement at Metallica’s ability to stand the test of time, remaining a strong musical force after more than four decades together. He acknowledged the role modern media played in helping them continue to connect with audiences, expressing gratitude for people’s interest and this opportunity.

Moreover, he went on to discuss how other iconic musicians, such as Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, have managed to maintain their relevance in the industry for so long. The drummer expressed his hope for his band to follow a similar path, continuing to make music for another twenty years as long as the band members’ health allowed.

He elaborated on the topic as follows:

“Who would have thought, coming up on 41 years later, that Metallica would still be functioning, would still be relevant enough to be sitting here with you guys, thank you very much, still going out there and playing a two-year tour and putting records out that still connect with people. Even in the wake of something like ‘Stranger Things’ last summer, reaching more and more people. Who the f*ck would have thought that?

McCartney just turned 80. He’s still out there. Jagger is doing all those sexy bum wiggles better than he’s ever done and connecting. It’s inspiring. And I think that as long as the shoulders and the necks and the knees and the backs if they keep functioning on the four Metallica guys, we’ll keep doing this hopefully for another 20 years — egg whites and tofu included.”

Lars Ulrich’s statements provided a window into the spirit that has shaped Metallica’s enduring presence in the music industry.
