If you’re interested in boxing, you may have heard that Mike Tyson will be having a fight with the YouTube star Jake Paul soon. But now it seems that another surprise name is joining them.
Maynard James Keenan, best known for Tool, has announced his participation in boxing icon Tyson’s forthcoming return to the ring. Tyson is preparing to step back into the boxing arena on July 20th for a match against Paul. Keenan shared on social media that Tyson’s training sessions for the fight were held at Keenan’s Verde Valley BJJ facility, a place he co-founded in Cottonwood, AZ. Sharing a picture of the two together, Keenan wrote:
“Honored to have Mike Tyson grace our small town academy, Verde Valley BJJ. His Training Camp for Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson began under our roof. Gonna be bragging about that for a bit. Long after y’all are tired of hearing about it. Deal with it.”
Sammy Hagar’s Reaction
Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar was one of the many famous names who commented on the post, and as it appears from his comment, Hagar is a huge Tyson fan. He wrote:
“There he is the man himself the baddest man on the planet in my book still today. I love Mike Tyson. I’m impressed Mr. Keenan. This is sirius bragging rights. Tell Mike Sammy says hey.”
Why Tyson and Paul Will Be Boxing
One might think that the fight is due to beef they have had in the past, but that’s not the case. The upcoming match will be streaming live on Netflix on July 20, 2024 and will take place at the home of the NFL Dallas Cowboys.
Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, earlier claimed that he had been offered to fight with the boxer in the past but he turned it down. Thinking he could beat Tyson, the conversation followed with the words:
“I said no to fighting Mike Tyson. I was offered it, but not on Netflix and not for a big ass bag. It was just like, this could be a real fight. I’ve been asked, ‘Do you think you could beat Mike Tyson?’ My answer was and will be yes. I just think he’s too old. That’s crazy. He’s senile.”
It didn’t take much time for Jake Paul to catch wind of that statement, prompting him to address the claims made by his brother about a possible fight with Tyson on his podcast. Jake explained how the fight was arranged and assured listeners that Tyson wasn’t actively seeking an opponent for his return to boxing. Instead, he stated that it was a generous offer from Netflix that enticed both fighters to agree to the match.
