Maynard James Keenan Introduces New Tool Character To Protest Anti-Drag Ban

Tool‘s frontman Maynard James Keenan recently made his stance known against Florida’s recently implemented anti-drag laws during the band’s performance at the Welcome To Rock Festival in Daytona Beach on Sunday night.

As recent anti-drag legislations sparked controversy in numerous states, Governor Ron DeSantis’ also joined the club by introducing recent controversial bills prohibiting minors from attending drag shows, restricting personal pronoun discussions in schools, and getting in the way of gender-affirming care for minors.

So, Keenan showed up on stage wearing a blonde wig, red lipstick, and artificial breasts to mock DeSantis’ recent legislations, making it clear where he stood on the controversy. However, his performance was met with mixed reactions from the audience as while some fans supported the frontman’s ‘bold’ protest, others weren’t on the same page.

With that said, as an all-ages festival, Welcome To Rockville inevitably became a platform for Keenan to push the limits of the new law. Though, according to critics, these regulations target and isolate the transgender population, limiting their capacity to authentically express themselves.

However, not everyone is protesting against these recent bills, as you can check out Ted Nugent’s controversial reaction to the bans.
