Max Cavalera has confirmed that Soulfly is already working on new music following the release of the band’s latest album, ‘Chama.’
Cavalera discussed his plans for putting together new material for the follow-up to Soulfly’s thirteenth album, ‘Chama,’ which came out last October via Nuclear Blast Records. He explained why he considers the record such a pivotal moment for the band.
“I have already some ideas for the new Soulfly, because I really believe ‘Chama’ is kind of a record that is a really special record for me because I think it’s a record that set up the blueprint for what Soulfly is gonna become on the next 10 years,” Cavalera said.
He went on to describe how he views the upcoming album in relation to ‘Chama.’
“So I think the next record is even more important than ‘Chama,’ because it’s a continuation of what we started, and I think it’s something that we can actually evolve with it,” Cavalera continued. “We can develop that further and go deeper into this idea.”
Cavalera’s comments come as no surprise given how central ‘Chama’ has become to his creative outlook. The singer’s momentum behind the record has only continued to build since its release.
Cavalera has already moved beyond the idea stage for the follow-up record. He has begun recording songs for the sequel to ‘Chama.’ The frontman’s rapid pace reflects the energy he has carried since the album’s release. It signals that Soulfly fans may not have to wait long for new material to take shape.
That energy has also translated to the road. Soulfly kicked off 2026 with an Australian run in support of ‘Chama,’ playing Perth on January 24, Brisbane on January 26, Sydney on January 27, and Melbourne on January 30. The tour gave fans across the country their first live taste of the new record. It also underscored how quickly Cavalera has folded ‘Chama’ material into the band’s live sets.
‘Chama’ itself has been described as a “Tribal Tech” creation, one that fuses heavy grooves, primal rhythms, and industrial chaos. That characterization lines up with Cavalera’s own remarks about the album serving as a blueprint for Soulfly’s sound over the next decade. It ties the record’s musical identity directly to the band’s future direction.
Recording is already underway on the next chapter. Cavalera also has a strengthened live presence behind him. He appears intent on building directly off the foundation ‘Chama’ established, continuing the evolution he described rather than starting from scratch.
