Matt Skiba Reacts To Blink-182’s Reunion With Tom DeLonge

The former Blink-182 guitarist and co-lead vocalist Matt Skiba recently shared an Instagram post in which he expressed his feelings about the band’s decision to reunite with DeLonge and commented on their new release.

Blink-182 has made it to the headlines with their successful works but also due to various lineup changes, hiatuses, and revivals they experienced since their formation in 1992. An integral part of the band’s original lineup and sound, Tom DeLonge left the band twice over creative reasons. After his second departure in 2015, he was replaced by Matt Skiba of the Alkaline Trio.

While they continued to play together with Skiba, in 2021, the band announced yet another hiatus after Mark Hoppus’ cancer diagnosis. However, in the fall of 2021, Hoppus, fortunately, beat cancer, and rumors of a Blink-182 reunion began to circulate. Fans were wondering if Tom DeLonge would return since he and Hoppus had gotten pretty close during the rocker’s battle with cancer.

As the rumors continued circulating, an announcement came from the band last week. They revealed their decision to reunite with Tom DeLonge, dropped a new song, and disclosed their plans for a new album. Skiba’s departure and DeLonge’s return do not seem to have caused any hard feelings between the two, as DeLonge shared an open letter addressing Skiba, in which he expressed his gratitude for the guitarist’s support of the band when he was unable to.

In fact, Skiba’s recent Instagram post also proved that it was not a messy breakup, as Skiba sounded quite understanding and excited in his reaction to the reunion. In the post in question, the vocalist congratulated Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge individually and described their reunion and new single as triumphant. Saying that he was grateful for his time with the band, Matt added that he was glad to see them together again. He also thanked the band and Blink fans for having him.

Skiba’s reaction to Blink-182’s reunion with Tom DeLonge follows:

“Congratulations to the homies Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker on their triumphant Blink-182 return/reunion and the release of their new single today! I’m sure there’s a joke in here about releases and happy endings I’m missing, but I am truly grateful for my time with Blink-182, and I am truly happy you guys are a band and a family again. Thanks to the band and all the Blink fans for having me. You were delicious! Matt from Chicago, with love.”
