Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge Shares An Open Letter Dedicated To Matt Skiba

Blink-182‘s Tom DeLonge took to his official Instagram account to share his love for the guitarist Matt Skiba, who had filled his place in his absence.

Founding guitarist and singer Tom DeLonge left Blink-182 in 2015 to pursue other interests that would fulfill him. After his departure, the band replaced him with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. However, DeLonge has decided to return to his original place in Blink-182, which means that Skiba’s journey with the band has to come to an end.

After almost a decade, DeLonge reunited with Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker in the studio for the first time to record their forthcoming full-length album. The trio announced their most extensive tour, with confirmed dates in the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as their debut in Latin America. Amongst the excellent news, DeLonge didn’t forget to thank Matt Skiba for holding down the fort while he was not a part of the band.

DeLonge shared an open letter that he had already sent to Skiba, where he thanked the guitarist for carrying the band when he couldn’t. He thanked Skiba for the kindness he had shown to him. DeLonge also wrote that Mark Hoppus’ cancer had put everything into perspective for him, so he wanted to put all the complicated feelings behind him.

The caption of the IG post read:

“I sent this to Matt personally, but it’s important for the world to know that I honor him. Thank you, Matt Skiba.”

His personal message to Skiba:

“Hi, Matt – Tom DeLonge here. I wanted to take a minute and say thank you for all you have done to keep the band alive and thriving in my absence. I think you are enormously talented (I still love to listen to your band to this day). You have always been so kind to me, not only in the press but also to others. I really noticed. Emotions between the three of us in Blink have always been complicated, but Mark’s cancer put things in perspective. But to be honest, the band would not even be here today if it were not for your ability to jump in and save the day. So from my heart to yours, thank you for being a part of our band.”
