Brent Hinds, the late Mastodon guitarist, left behind an unreleased solo album that has been revealed by his former bandmate, according to Louder Sound.
Duane Trucks, who previously played alongside Hinds, shared details about the unreleased material and reflected on the guitarist’s artistic authenticity.
“Brent’s got an entire album that hasn’t seen the light of day,” Trucks said. “He sent me the whole album of tunes and it’s cool as shit.”
Trucks also spoke about Hinds’ genuine approach to music and his character as an artist.
“You rarely meet someone with so many facets who does things in such an honest, vulnerable way,” he continued. “He really f*cking meant what he was playing. It was not a put-on. He wasn’t just doing this for a cheque.”
The revelation of this unreleased material comes months after the guitarist’s tragic death, adding another layer to his musical legacy.
MetalSucks reported that Hinds died in a motorcycle accident on August 20, 2025, at the age of 51. The accident occurred in Atlanta, Georgia, when Hinds was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was struck by a BMW SUV that failed to yield.
Trucks served as the drummer for Hinds’ psychobilly band Fiend Without a Face, where the two musicians developed a close working relationship. Metal Injection noted that Trucks personally heard the entire unreleased album after Hinds sent it to him, praising the guitarist’s honest and vulnerable approach to music.
Hinds was best known as a founding member and guitarist of the progressive metal band Mastodon, where he contributed to the band’s distinctive sound and critical acclaim. His work extended beyond Mastodon into various side projects, showcasing his versatility as a musician across different genres.
ThePRP confirmed that there is no public release date or official statement on when or if the solo album will be issued. The fate of the unreleased album and whether it will be shared with fans remains to be seen. The existence of the recording has been confirmed by close associates.
