Mastodon have officially announced their upcoming ninth studio album, Marrow Deep. It marks their first new record without guitarist Brent Hinds, who passed away last year following a motorcycle accident.
The band revealed that Marrow Deep will be released on August 28th, 2026. They introduced it with a new single titled “Snakes For Dinner,” which features a guest appearance from Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme. In their announcement, the band addressed fans directly and shared their excitement about the new chapter.
“Hello Everyone, You have all been asking for it, so we are excited to announce our new album, Marrow Deep, will be released August 28th, 2026 and we are kicking it off with a new video for our new song ‘Snakes For Dinner,’ which features an appearance from our long time friend, Josh Homme,” the band said. “It’s been quite the journey making this album, and we are very happy with how it came out, we can not wait for you to hear the whole thing! Until then, check out the new video, and pre-order a copy of the album today. Stay tuned, we’ll keep bringing you updates, content and a bunch of other cool fun stuff!”
The statement also touched on the band’s upcoming live plans and their gratitude toward their fanbase.
“As always, thank you for being part of our world,” they continued. “We look forward to seeing you all on the Poisonous Weapons Tour and beyond!”
Marrow Deep is set for release on August 28th, 2026, with pre-orders now available.
The announcement marks a significant turning point for one of progressive metal’s most celebrated acts. The band moves forward following the loss of a founding member who helped define their sound across more than two decades.
Brent Hinds was a co-founder of Mastodon and served as one of the band’s primary guitarists and vocalists since their formation in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000. His distinctive playing style and creative contributions were central to the band’s identity across eight studio albums, from their 2002 debut Remission through to their most recent releases. His death marked the end of an era for a group long regarded as one of the most innovative forces in heavy music.
Josh Homme’s appearance on “Snakes For Dinner” is a natural fit given his long-standing relationship with the band. Homme is the founder and frontman of Queens of the Stone Age. He has moved in overlapping circles with Mastodon for years, and his involvement on the lead single signals that Marrow Deep will carry significant creative ambition despite the difficult circumstances surrounding its creation.
The Poisonous Weapons Tour, referenced in the band’s statement, points to an active live campaign planned around the album cycle. Mastodon have historically been a formidable live act. A full touring push behind Marrow Deep would represent the band’s first major road campaign as a reconfigured lineup. The tour name carries a weight consistent with the album’s themes, suggesting the band is leaning into the emotional and artistic gravity of this moment rather than shying away from it.
Marrow Deep arrives as one of the most anticipated heavy rock records of 2026. For a band navigating grief while simultaneously delivering new music, the album represents both a tribute to what came before and a declaration that Mastodon intend to continue pushing forward.
