Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain shared an emotional update ahead of the band’s return to the road, according to a post on Instagram. The message comes as Cain expresses his excitement to reunite with fans after a short break. It also comes ahead of what will be his final tour with the band, the Final Frontier tour.
The post touched on how the time away from touring has affected him personally. Cain also expressed enthusiasm for getting back on stage with Journey.
“Time off has been good for the soul, but I’m ready to get back on the road!” Cain said. “Grateful for the rest, excited for what’s ahead, and still counting every blessing God continues to pour into my life. Can’t wait to see you all out there!”
Cain has previously spoken about his decision to step away from touring with Journey. He explained the reasoning behind stepping back from life on the road.
“It’s time for me, at my age. I wanna live my life, and the road just is so consuming and it just seems like a good time to get off, for me,” Cain said. “And I just love our fans, and I wanna do it in a proper farewell, to say goodbye.”
The break comes at the midpoint of a sprawling farewell run that has kept Journey on stages across two continents for much of the year.
The Final Frontier tour kicked off on February 28 at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It now stretches all the way to November 28, when the band closes out the run with a hometown finale at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The second leg picks back up in September, sending the band through Tokyo, Honolulu, Los Angeles and beyond before the tour winds its way back to the West Coast for its final bow.
That San Francisco finale carries extra weight, since it marks the true end point of Cain’s time on the road with Journey. The band has not settled on exactly how that night will unfold. But the significance of closing out the tour in the city most tied to the group’s legacy has not been lost on anyone involved.
Cain has already floated the idea that the Chase Center show could bring a surprise of its own. He raised the possibility of a reunion moment as part of the send-off. Nothing has been confirmed. But the tease has only added to the anticipation building around the tour’s closing chapter.
For now, the focus stays on getting back out on stage. With the rest behind him and the biggest stretch of the farewell tour still ahead, Cain’s message reads less like a goodbye and more like a rallying cry for the shows still to come.
