Marilyn Manson has announced a 30th anniversary vinyl edition of his landmark 1996 album Antichrist Superstar, featuring deluxe packaging and previously unreleased materials, in an announcement shared posted on Instagram.
The release marks three decades since the album’s original debut. It has been created as a definitive physical edition for longtime fans and those discovering the album’s influence for the first time. The vinyl is pressed on Midnight Blue with Iridescent Gold & Green Haze colored vinyl.
“It’s been 30 years since I carved open the American dream and pulled out Antichrist Superstar in all its vitriolic glory,” Marilyn Manson said. “For us true believers that scar never healed and it became folklore for a culture that forgot what real danger sounded like. I am here to remind everyone.”
The deluxe release features a premium presentation with a 28 page 12″ x 12″ booklet. The booklet includes scans of Manson’s personal notebooks with original handwritten lyrics to songs from the album, sketches, and never-before-seen photography from the Antichrist Superstar era.
According to Waxwork Records, the label behind the release, Antichrist Superstar was “the landmark 1996 album that shattered boundaries, provoked controversy, and forever altered the landscape of alternative music. This ferocious collision of industrial, metal, and theatrical rock remains one of the defining albums of the 1990s.”
The 30th Anniversary Edition brings together the music, imagery, and artifacts of a pivotal moment in Manson’s career. This physical release offers an intimate look inside one of the most provocative and culturally significant albums of its generation.
Antichrist Superstar was released on October 8, 1996, by Nothing and Interscope Records. The album was produced by Marilyn Manson along with Sean Beavan, former Skinny Puppy producer Dave Ogilvie, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. It achieved platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America in December 1996, just two months after its release, and sold more than 1.2 million copies in the United States within its first year.
The album became one of the most controversial, influential, and commercially successful records of the decade, transforming the band from underground provocateurs into international rock stars. Lorraine Ali of Rolling Stone credited Antichrist Superstar with ending the dominance of grunge within popular music. The record’s success was fueled by extensive MTV exposure, particularly the music video for “The Beautiful People,” and the band’s notorious Dead to the World Tour, which ran from 1996 into 1997. Religious organizations and conservative groups protested the tour, generating headlines that only intensified the band’s popularity.
The album’s concept functions as a rock opera and the first installment in a trilogy that includes Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). The band’s anti-Christian stance as well as the transgressive and confrontational nature of their music, performance and appearance led to numerous protests from religious and civic groups such as the American Family Association. The record transformed Manson into a bonafide rock icon and turned the band into household names.
Marilyn Manson released his twelfth studio album, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1, on November 22, 2024. The band’s live lineup in 2024 and 2025 consists of guitarists Tyler Bates and Reba Meyers, bassist Piggy D., and drummer Gil Sharone. Manson is touring the United States and Europe in 2025 in support of the new album.
