She continued to explain how the name transformation began 25 years ago when Halestorm was still an unsigned band.

“25 years ago, we were making a name for ourselves as a young, unsigned band in Pennsylvania,” she said. “This was before social media but there was a frenzy happening on our website message board. Our fans were expressing and comparing their love for what I do, with the legend Ozzy Osbourne.”

Hale described how fans began creating a mashup of their names. This eventually led to her adopting the LZZY spelling.

“One particular fan, started shipping our names together and calling our fan fantasy mashup LZZY,” she explained. “I considered it an utmost form of flattery, and watching our message board buzz fanning the flames for my growing reputation was highly entertaining for all of us.”

The influence spread to other fans, who began dropping vowels from their own names in similar fashion.

“Then something magical happened…after weeks of this going on, girls starting showing up to our shows with painted signs proclaiming that they had dropped the vowels from their names together spell it like mine,” Hale wrote. “Mind you, I was still going by Elizabeth or Liz at the time, but all these girls would see after going to our site was everyone spelling my name without the I.”

She concluded her letter by expressing gratitude to both her fans and Osbourne for shaping her identity as a performer.

“It’s amazing how when music chooses you, you have no choice yourself but to bend to its will and strap in for the ride,” she said. “I want to thank all of our fans from the year 2000 and beyond for helping shape me, and thank you to Ozzy Osbourne, the Ultimate Front Man, for inadvertently giving me my Name to Fame. I would not be the rocker I am without you.”

Hale’s tribute comes at a particularly significant moment in rock history. She prepares to take part in what promises to be an emotional farewell celebration.

Metal Addicts reported that Hale expressed her honor at being the only female performer at Ozzy’s final concert. This highlights the historic nature of her participation in this milestone event. The significance of this moment extends beyond just a single performance. It represents decades of influence that Osbourne has had on countless musicians.

Hale’s connection to Osbourne’s music runs deeper than just her stage name origin story. WMMR noted that she has previously cited Ozzy Osbourne’s 1995 album “Ozzmosis” as one of the three metal albums that have had the most significant impact on her musical development. This influence has shaped not only her vocal style but also her approach to frontmanship throughout her career.

The upcoming July 5 celebration represents more than just a concert for the metal community. Louder Sound highlighted that this event will mark a pivotal moment in rock history as fans gather to honor both Ozzy Osbourne’s solo career and Black Sabbath’s legendary legacy. The show brings together multiple generations of metal artists who have been influenced by Osbourne’s groundbreaking work.

Hale’s public letter demonstrates the lasting impact that pioneering artists like Osbourne have on emerging musicians. Her story illustrates how influence can manifest in unexpected ways, from inspiring stage names to shaping entire musical identities. The letter serves as both a personal tribute and a testament to the enduring power of metal music to connect artists across generations.

The anticipation builds for Black Sabbath’s final celebration show on July 5. This will mark the end of an era while celebrating the beginning of countless musical journeys inspired by their influence.
