Lzzy Hale Says Halestorm Is Not Competing With Justin Bieber Reflecting On The ’Rock Is Dead’ Debate

Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale opened up about the infamous ‘rock is dead’ allegation during a recent interview with Alternative Press. According to the singer, rock is a constant in the music industry that never chases trends or competes with pop musicians like Justin Bieber which is the reason why Hale loves rock music so much.

There has been an ongoing discussion about the future ofrock music started by KISS bassist Gene Simmons during an interview with Esquire back in 2014. In his statement, Simmons used the sentence ‘rock is dead’ and since then, there’s an endless debate based on his bold comment including numerous commentaries coming from many bands and musicians.

During the interview, Simmons said:

“When I was coming up, it was not an insurmountable mountain. Once you had a record company on your side, they would fund you, and that also meant when you toured they would give you tour support. There was an entire industry to help the next Beatles, Stones, Prince, Hendrix, to prop them up and support them every step of the way.

There are still record companies, and it does apply to pop, rap, and country to an extent. But for performers who are also songwriters — the creators — for rock music, for the soul, for the blues — it’s finally dead. Rock is finally dead.”

Pretty much every rock and roll artist revealed their opinion about Gene Simmons’ controversial statement here and there. Although many of them agree with the fact that rock isn’t going anywhere and it’s not the mainstream at the moment, the argument doesn’t seem to come to an end any time soon as countless musicians are being asked about their thoughts on the matter during many interviews.

Recently, Lzzy Hale was asked about her opinion on the KISS bassist’s statement during an interview and revealed that rock music cannot die since it’s a consistent element in the music industry that does the same thing for decades. In addition to this, Halestorm frontwoman stated that rock music doesn’t chase trends to be the mainstream genre which fades away eventually.

In order to prove her point, Lzzy Hale gave the example of pop star Justin Bieber and stated that rock music would never try to compete with pop musicians like himself. According to the vocalist, this is one of the many reasons why she loves rock since it’s a compact genre that never goes away or evolves for the sake of being liked by more people.

During an interview with Alternative Press, Hale stated:

“Well, rock can’t die if it never goes away. Rock never goes away. It’s a constant. This is part of why I love rock, and the genre is that we’re not chasing trends. We’re not trying to compete with Justin Bieber. There are a lot of different genres, especially things that go over the top and anything that’s a shining light right now. But that stuff burns, and then it fades away. But we’re underground, and we just keep doing what we’re doing. Rock cannot die if it never goes away.”

While it isn’t surprising to see Lzzy Hale bringing her perspective to consider when it comes to the notorious discussion of ‘rock is dead,’ she has a good point by stressing the fact that rock is a stable and solid music genre. Unlike others, rock music carries its essence after all these years and many rock and roll artists refuse to change their style just to be a part of mainstream music.
