Les Claypool recently shared new videos from Primus’ drummer auditions on Instagram and revealed some terrific names that took part in the process, like Maynard James Keenan and Danny Carey. Among the competitors, especially Rory Dolan and Thomas Pridgen gathered attention from fans.

The drummers’ respective followers reacted to them not getting picked immediately in the comments section. “Just playing with Les and Ler is an insane honor, but if you don’t get the gig, I’m gonna flip a table,” one fan wrote in Dolan’s comments section.

To Pridgen, one of the comments read, “Dude, we want you in the band. So many great drummers! Let’s go!” while another went, “I hope you get the spot. Your style is the most logical fit.”

Primus started looking for a new drummer last year, right after Tim Alexander quit, citing loss of passion with the band. “We are currently taking submissions from all points in the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist,” the official announcement for the auditions read.

“Seeking a well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world. Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must.”

Primus will be back on stage with Tool’s Danny Carey at festival dates in the Dominican Republic in March. They also plan to launch a joint tour with Puscifer and A Perfect Circle in April.
