Foo Fighters are perhaps one of the most lovable bands in the rock world. They do not get into unnecessary feuds, and competitions, and only focus on delivering great music that matches the members’ personalities. Josh Klinghoffer verifies this situation, and recently he talked about having played with the band in the old days. He stated that he replaced Nate Mendel for eight minutes.

Josh Klinghoffer said that he was a huge fan of the Foo Fighters in 1995 when their first album came out. He stated that he knew how to play every song on that album and had been to many of their concerts to see them. Although he didn’t continue following the Foo Fighters afterward, it was enough time to be their fan.

Mainly known for his acts with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh recently revealed that he had played with the Foo Fighters even before that. One day, the band had to do a soundcheck before their performance, but their bassist Nate Mendel was late. Hence the guitarist picked up the bass guitar and played the band’s songs with them during the soundcheck. Although this was a memorable time for the guitarist, it only lasted eight minutes.

Josh Klinghoffer said:

“I would watch Foo Fighters soundcheck. One time, their bass player hadn’t gotten to the venue yet or something. So, I played bass with them. I did one soundcheck because when Dave’s first record came out, I was a big fan of that first Foo Fighters album. I didn’t really follow them after that.

I saw them a lot. I saw them open for Mike Watt in 1995, and then I saw them two nights in a row at The Roxy Theatre in LA also in 1995. They played the song ‘My Hero,’ which was in the second album. I think that song’s amazing.

Taylor wasn’t even in the band yet, it was still Nate and William from Sunny Day Real Estate, and I was a big fan of that band. I knew how to play all those songs already, so I figured out the first Foo Fighters album, so when Nate didn’t show up, I can’t even remember what song I played. I think I played with them for 8 minutes.”

Despite not being in the band, his pure admiration for their music gave him an unforgettable eight minutes. Also, Taylor Hawkins performed with Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers and gave tribute to the band’s beloved drummer. Foo Fighters continue to be a beloved and respected band in the rock world, and stories like this only add to their appeal.
