In a recent interview with The Telegraph, John Lydon criticized bands that mislead their fans with false farewell tour announcements.

The former Sex Pistols frontman voiced his concerns about a deceptive practice in the music industry. He specifically targeted bands that announce final tours while secretly planning future performances.

“The industry is riddled with artists claiming they’re on their final tour but have already booked themselves for five years after,” Lydon said.

His statement emerges during an ongoing trend of high-profile bands announcing farewell tours. Many of these bands later return to the stage for additional performances.

Lydon’s comments carry extra weight as he maintains an active touring schedule with his band, Public Image Limited (PiL).

Louder Sound reported that PiL will launch a 23-date tour of the UK and Ireland for 2025. The tour will begin in Bristol on May 22. This announcement followed a period when Lydon contemplated retiring from touring after losing his wife, Nora, and manager, John ‘Rambo’ Stevens.

The band faces significant changes. PiL’s official website confirmed that longtime drummer Bruce Smith has left the group. Smith played with the band from 1986-1990 and again from 2009-2024. Lydon now seeks a replacement. He specifically wants to avoid famous musicians to prevent dealing with egos.

Louder Than War revealed that Lydon has focused on personal development. He made the decision to quit alcohol while reflecting on his extensive musical career and influence on punk culture.

Building on his successful 2024 spoken word tour, Lydon will begin another extensive tour in Autumn 2025. The three-month tour will cover Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.
