Guitarist John 5 recently explained the circumstances behind Mötley Crüe’s last-minute cancellation of their New Year’s Eve show at Acrisure Arena in 2023. The show was called off just 10 days before the scheduled performance due to an unexpected logistical issue, as shared in an interview on CV Independent.
The cancellation stemmed from a shipping delay involving the band’s equipment. After completing their tour in Japan and Australia, the band’s gear was placed on a ship bound for Los Angeles. However, the cargo arrived far later than anticipated.
“We were in Japan and Australia, and we had all our gear, and the (Acrisure) show was for New Year’s Eve,” John 5 explained. “It was sometime in December when we got home. With all your gear, you put it on a ship, and it freights all the way back to Los Angeles. Our gear didn’t show up back in L.A. until Jan. 11.”
The delay left the band without their equipment for the performance. “We had nothing. It was incredible. Our whole show was on this ship, and I was like, ‘I can’t believe it,'” John 5 said. “It was going so slow because of the weather, so there’s nothing we could do. I was crushed, because I love Palm Springs.”
The unexpected cancellation highlighted the challenges touring bands face when coordinating international logistics and equipment transportation. This incident became one of the most notable concert cancellations of the holiday season, affecting thousands of fans who had planned to ring in the new year with the legendary rock band.
