Matt Sorum On Having Concerns About Leaving LA

For musicians and other artists in the entertainment industry, L.A. is considered the place to go if you dream of achieving worldwide fame. It is where it’s most easy to connect with fellow artists, regardless of whether you’re recording in a studio or making a movie. So the former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum confessed to Architectural Digest that the thought of leaving the artistic center where he found himself made him feel uncomfortable.

Palm Springs has always had a special place in the drummer and his wife, Ace Harper’s lives, especially after their wedding at the Colony Palms Hotel in 2013. However, the couple decided to finally make the big decision and move to the city in 2020 when they found their dream home.

The drummer shared some details about their thinking process before deciding to move to a resort city by saying, “Palm Springs was originally invented for stars to come from Hollywood to play tennis, golf, and chill out, you know? So that’s what we’re doing.”

The pandemic prolonged the process, so the couple and their baby daughter Lou Ellington Sorum could move into their dream home in Palm Springs in December of 2021. Although Sorum took the plunge and moved, he had hesitations. Matt confessed, “As a musician, it was hard for me to leave L.A. I always felt like it was ‘out of sight, out of mind.’ I was fearful of it, but we became permanent residents of Palm Springs, and it’s spectacular.”

Although moving away from L.A. was initially a hard decision for the drummer, it now seems like he wouldn’t change Palm Springs for the world. There’s no denying that there is a slower pace of life, but maybe taking a break from the hustle and bustle of L.A. was the right call for Sorum and his family.
