The Smile Postpones A Show After Thom Yorke’s Voice Problem
Radiohead side-project The Smile recently announced the postponement of one of their dates from their debut tour. The band announced it on Instagram and stated that they postponed the Lille show due to Thom Yorke’s voice problems.
The Smile is a side project consisting of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner. Radiohead is still active and performing since its formation in 1985. Still, Thom and Jonny had the initiative to create The Smile during the pandemic. Working with the Radiohead producer Nigel Goodrich, the band released six singles and one album.
The album, ‘Light for Attracting Attention’ was digitally released on May 13, and the band quickly wanted to follow it up with a tour. Also, having released many singles throughout the lockdown, they hit the road on May 16. The European tour began in Zagreb, Croatia, and spread all over the continent. However, recently there was an unexpected postponement announcement.
The band announced problems with Thom’s voice on their official Instagram account. While they didn’t specify the problem, the band stated that their concert in Lille, France, which was supposed to take on June 4, will be postponed to September. The new date is yet to be announced. However, they informed their fans that Thom’s voice would be better by the Paris dates.
The band’s announcement follows:
“It is with regret that we have to postpone tomorrow’s show at L’Aéronef in Lille (Saturday, June 4) due to problems with Thom’s voice. We aim to reschedule the show for September, the exact date is to be decided. Please hang on to your tickets. We fully expect Thom to be fit for the show in Paris. Please accept our apologies.”
The fans care about Thom’s health first and foremost, as the musicians will either let the fans keep their tickets or allow them to refund. However, it’s still a topic of curiosity as to what could have happened, mainly because Thom had sung the nights before perfectly.
