Joe Perry recently shared the song his bandmate Steven Tyler is playing drums in. In a new interview with Guitar World, the rocker discussed the fifty years of Aerosmith and talked about the earlier days of the band’s career.
The band’s 15-track album ‘Music From Another Dimension’ consisted of one song the singer played the drums for. During the new interview, Perry shared details about the 2012 album and revealed the name of the song Tyler appeared on the drums.
Why The Album Was ‘Less Creative’ Than Others
Referring to the band’s 15th studio album, the interviewer touched on Perry’s creative side with Hollywood Vampires not being the same as Aerosmith. The rocker revealed that the album had more old songs rather than new ones due to several reasons. He said:
“Even back when we did ‘Music from Another Dimension,’ I wasn’t sure we were gonna be able to do another record. Everybody had stuff going on, and really, with that record, we did write some new stuff, but a lot of it was stuff that had been around for as long as 20 years before.”

Although the band didn’t know whether or not they would continue together, they managed to put out the album and make new music as well. Aerosmith decided to put one particular old song to the album because Tyler had sat on the drums to play on it. Marking the first time the rocker played drums in a released song, his bandmate revealed the name of the song:
“For example, there’s a song called ‘Something’ I wrote in the early ’90s. And I mainly put it on because I wanted Steven to play drums on it. So, if you want to hear what kind of drummer Steven is, give it a listen. But we did the record, put it out there, and then Steven went on to do the TV show [American Idol].”
The rocker then shared the difference between Aerosmith and Hollywood Vampires, and explained the reason for the creative difference among the bands:
“I was in the middle of working on my solo record, and we weren’t touring as much. We got off doing different things, and over the last few years, it’s been hard to get everyone together to do stuff.”
Joe Perry earlier talked about the song Tyler played the drums in, stating that Tyler did a good job and that he initially thought he would be suitable to play the drums because it was a simple song.
Although he is known for his singing, it was not Tyler’s first appearance on drums for the album. The rocker also appeared on drums several times during the band’s earlier shows. Below, you can watch one of the shows in which he played the drums for a song.
