Joe Elliott Reveals Stunning Details About His Iconic Def Leppard Look: ‘I Had A Budget Of £25’

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott recently shared how he created his iconic outfit for one of the band’s music videos on social media. Shared as a 40th-anniversary fact of their album ‘Pyromania,’ he recalled spending only 25 euros to assemble the outfit. In the post description, he explained why he spent a small amount on the outfit and specified which music video it was for. He shared:

“The day before the ‘Photograph’ video, I had a budget of £25 to buy something to make this video the next day. I was down at King’s Road (in London), and I think it may have been McLaren’s shop Sex.”

Elliott then detailed what pieces he purchased for that amount. He added:

“I bought these plastic trousers that were too short, so I had to get leg warmers. Adidas boots, handcuff belt. I’ve got 8 quid left, and there’s this Union Jack shirt for £7.99. Outfit done. It wasn’t some big plan. It was just all I had.”

The ‘Pyromania’ era Union Jack shirts, part of the unplanned outfit, became so popular that the band started selling them as merch. Some fans commented that they wanted the Union Jack merch back, while some mentioned the frontman’s creativity.
