Ian Anderson recently shared his thoughts on social media and cancel culture during a chat with Q1043 New York’s Jonathan Clarke.

“I’m not a social media guy,” he started. “I mean, we have all these social media sites of one sort or another, but I don’t spend my time ever doing social media. It’s just a tool of the trade. Something you have to do in order to let people know who you are and that you’re still alive and kicking. But I have no interest in social media.”

“So—what’s the Tesla guy? What’s his name again? Elon Musk. So, Elon Musk be damned. It won’t matter to me. I am not a user of Twitter or X in a personal sense. So, it means nothing to me at all,” the singer continued.

That approach also helped him dismiss the concern of being cancelled. “I don’t have to think about being cancelled because I wouldn’t even know that I was cancelled,” Anderson noted.

“I’m an old guy anyway. People cut us a little slack when we get to our age. You can, more or less, say what you want and people think, ‘Oh, he’s just a little bit gooey in the brain department. So, we’ll let him get away with it.’ But maybe I am cancelled. I have no idea.”

The Jethro Tull frontman previously sparked online debates with his opinions on topics such as the ‘woke agenda’ and transgender issues. However, he has never actually faced cancellation.

At the moment, he is on tour with Jethro Tull, wrapping up their winter performances in Italy on February 20. The band will then travel through several countries, including Finland, Slovakia, France, Austria, Germany, and Spain, before finishing in Poland on December 7.

Their upcoming album, ‘Curious Ruminant,’ is set for release on March 7, 2025. The title track and lead single debuted on January 10, 2025.
