In a new conversation with Muzickazona, Jay Weinberg talked about the worst Slipknot concert he played.
“Yes, many — but they’re almost all impossible to describe to anyone who hasn’t lived it,” the drummer replied when asked about a crazy touring experience that still amazes him. “As far as one that’s relatable, I played one of the biggest shows of my life with a bad case of food poisoning.”
He continued to tell the rest of the incident, “That was pretty dreadful. It was Wacken Open Air 2022 I front of nearly 100,000 people; I was throwing up the entire time before and after we played. Solid gig though.”
Recently, Weinberg shared footage from a clinic he held in Paris last October. He played ‘Spiders’ and ‘Solway Firth’ from Slipknot’s ‘We Are Not Your Kind.’ It was his first time playing Slipknot songs publicly since leaving the band in 2023.
Fans enjoyed the performance but were upset that Slipknot fired him. A fan commented on his Instagram post, “Slipknot lost another great drummer!!” Another one said, “Why Slipknot decided to fire you is beyond me. Without you there’d be no Slipknot today. Cannot wait to see where you’ll take your career next.”
“What a shame. Such a great drummer man. Like literally carried Slipknot for 10 years. Cmon… like imagine ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ without Jay’s wicked playing,” one other wrote.
Weinberg joined Slipknot in 2014, replacing Joey Jordison. He played on three albums before being fired. His departure was called a creative decision, but Weinberg said he was heartbroken and surprised. He also went to counseling to deal with his 10 years in the band.
In January, the musician joined Infectious Grooves, replacing Brooks Wackerman. He played his first show with them on March 23, 2024. In March 2024, Weinberg also joined Suicidal Tendencies, replacing Greyson Nekrutman. He’s also been working on his solo record.
