Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted shared his thoughts about the band’s upcoming Syracuse concert in an interview with NewsChannel 9 WSYR Syracuse.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since Metallica played in Syracuse,” Newsted said. “I was with them there, I think it was ’96, that was the last time we did it.”
“They have been together for 44 years,” he continued. “They have thousands of shows under their belt. I think probably the number one live act from America currently is Metallica.”
“They bring it all every time, and I know that the production this time around is the most fantastical one to date,” he added. “So, yeah, get your dancing shoes on.”
Metallica is preparing for their upcoming performance in Syracuse, New York. This appearance will mark their return to the city after many years.
Newsted’s comments about Metallica’s live performances reflect the band’s impressive track record and upcoming achievements.
Data from American Songwriter revealed that Metallica will break attendance records at the JMA Wireless Dome during their Syracuse performance. The band is set to surpass the previous record held by The Who.
The band’s connection to Syracuse spans nearly four decades. Records from Metallica’s official website showed that beyond Newsted’s recalled 1996 Lollapalooza appearance, the band performed twice in the city in 1986.
The upcoming show is part of Metallica’s M72 World Tour. Documentation from Klook highlighted the tour’s unprecedented production scale. The setup requires nearly 80 trucks to transport their extensive video, sound, and lighting equipment.
This massive production setup reinforces Newsted’s assessment of Metallica’s status. The band continues to push boundaries in live entertainment after more than four decades in the industry.
