Ice Nine Kills singer Spencer Charnas recently shared a paranormal experience involving late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain during an interview with 101 WRIF.

The metalcore vocalist recounted a mysterious incident that occurred while he was visiting Kurt Cobain’s former residence in Seattle. When asked about paranormal experiences, Charnas described what he believes may have been a supernatural encounter.

“So, the one thing that I can remember, I as I said, I’m a huge Nirvana fan and my girlfriend and I were in Seattle,” Charnas said. “I think actually we might have been when we were in playing with Metallica in Seattle and we checked out Kurt Cobain’s house. And there’s a park bench next to his house that’s kind of become like an unofficial memorial for me.”

Charnas explained that he left a guitar pick at the memorial site while recording the moment on his phone.

“People drop off notes and stuff and I dropped off a guitar pick and I was recording with my phone,” he continued. “I was recording just the lawn and something really strange happened with the recording of the video. It kind of like glitched out and I went back and I paused it and to me and maybe I’m crazy and I’m reading into it, but when I paused it, I saw like a figure when I when I paused the video and I’ll show you after.”

The Ice Nine Kills frontman described the mysterious figure he observed in the footage.

“It looked like the grim reaper to me and it could have just obviously just been me being an idiot,” Charnas said. “I never even really talked about it. But I don’t know. I like to think it was Kurt saying, ‘Hey, how are you?’ Because I’m just such an admirer of his and I probably wouldn’t be sitting here talking about music if it wasn’t for Kurt and Nirvana.”

This supernatural encounter reflects Charnas’s deep connection to both music history and the darker themes that have shaped his artistic vision throughout his career.

Wikipedia reported that Spencer Charnas is the only remaining founding member of Ice Nine Kills. The band originally started as a ska punk band called Ice Nine in 2000 before evolving into the metalcore act known today. The band’s transformation from ska punk to horror-themed metalcore mirrors Charnas’s own artistic evolution and his fascination with darker subject matter.

The park bench memorial that Charnas visited has become a significant pilgrimage site for music fans worldwide. Various fan sources indicated that the unofficial memorial near Cobain’s former Seattle residence regularly attracts visitors who leave notes, flowers, and personal tributes to the late Nirvana frontman. This makeshift shrine has maintained its significance for nearly three decades since Cobain’s death in 1994.

Charnas’s horror-influenced artistic approach makes his supernatural interpretation particularly fitting. Revolver Magazine noted that the frontman is known for crafting intricate heavy-metal homages to films through albums like *The Silver Scream*. He draws from dark inspirations to create blood-soaked musical narratives. This background in horror-themed storytelling likely influences how he processes and interprets unusual experiences.

The incident occurred during what appears to have been a tour with Metallica, highlighting Ice Nine Kills’ rise in the metal scene. The band’s ability to secure such high-profile touring opportunities demonstrates their growing influence in the metalcore genre. Charnas’s continued reverence for grunge pioneers like Cobain shows the diverse musical influences that shape modern metal acts.
