The Recording Academy announced the 2023 Special Merit Awards honorees. Those who won Lifetime Achievement Awards included Ma Rainey, Bobby McFerrin, Nirvana, Slick Rick ‘The Ruler,’ The Supremes, and last but not least, Heart’s Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson. After this great news, Nancy Wilson shared a post on her Facebook account, revealing the meaning of this honor for her.

“I can hardly fathom the Lifetime Achievement Award is coming to me and my sister Ann,” admitted Nancy and didn’t forget to mention her bandmate. The guitar player later expressed how momentous this award is for their decades-long career, “It’s a deep acknowledgment for the nearly 50 years of our lives we put into this music. It is more than meaningful for both of us.”

Then, Nancy Wilson stressed the importance of setting an example for female musiciansby adding, “It speaks to the relevance of the songs themselves and what those songs continue to mean to our loyal and our new fans. And I hope it speaks to the new breed of amazing women who are now emerging in the world of rock – keeping it alive and kicking. And I plan to keep on kicking too.”

Wilson finally expressed her gratitude for her family, fans, band members, and the Grammy Awards. She said, “Thank you to my supportive blended family, our fans, our incredible players who’ve joined and continued on their own journey, and the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs! I love you.”

Ann and Nancy Wilson will receive their award in February during GRAMMY Week 2023 when the Special Merit Awards Ceremony take place in Los Angeles. This in-person ceremony will be the first in three years since the last event was held in 2020. The Heart icons will hopefully join the show together and give speeches that are going to move their fans, especially the future female rockers.
