Tobias Forge recently shared his thoughts about revealing his identity as Ghost’s frontman in an interview with Planet Rock.

“It did make life easier. Before that, we had to put in a lot of extra effort to not be visible,” Forge explained. “It created a few image-keeping upsides but many practical downsides. It was just uncomfortable. It made people feel uncomfortable. It led to many misunderstandings.”

“Before I was outed and started doing interviews like this, I didn’t feel completely anonymous,” he continued. “Post-2017, I don’t feel super famous. Setting my name to things openly did not mean everybody started recognizing me.”

Forge’s identity came to light in 2017 due to a lawsuit. This disclosure transformed his interactions with media and fans.

The identity revelation emerged after years of carefully maintaining the band’s mysterious image.

Metal Injection revealed that Ghost’s story began in 2006. Forge wrote “Stand by Him,” which established the band’s signature combination of heavy metal riffs and satanic themes.

Miss Mephistopheles documented that Forge never intended to become the lead vocalist. He offered the role to several musicians before taking it himself. His love for horror films and Scandinavian metal traditions inspired the concept of anonymous “Nameless Ghouls.”

The unmasking lawsuit involved former Ghost members Simon Söderberg, Mauro Rubino, Martin Hjertstedt, and Henrik Palm. Wikipedia noted this royalties dispute as a pivotal moment for the band.

Louder highlighted Ghost’s distinctive musical evolution. The band combines melodic rock with pop elements, drawing from Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult. Forge’s experience in glam metal and punk rock shaped this unique sound.
